Travel

Glasgow’s city center is very well connected, making Glasgow Green easy to reach. Glasgow Queen Street (north/east lines) and Central (west/south lines) stations are just a short taxi or bus ride from the park. Once in town, you can take a local bus or subway train to get closer: for example, the Buchanan Street or St Enoch Subway stops lie under a mile from the park gates. The nearby Argyle Street rail station sits right at Glasgow Green’s western edge, offering another convenient rail option. Several city buses (operated by First Glasgow or Stagecoach) stop directly along Glasgow Green Road and Bellgrove Street at the park’s edge. If you arrive by coach, you will likely come into Buchanan Bus Station in the city center; from there Glasgow Green is just one subway stop or a short bus ride east.

Driving to Glasgow Green is possible, but plan ahead for busy streets and limited parking. The park is about a mile east of the city center, reachable via Glasgow’s main roads (the M8 or M74). On festival days, traffic on approach routes like the A8/M8 and local roads near Glasgow Cross can be heavy. There is virtually no parking right next to the festival (except for accessible parking), so it’s usually best to park in town and join a bus or walk. Nearby Glasgow car parks (for example around Central Station or the Merchant City area) are within a 10-15 minute walk of the site. Some visitors choose to use park-and-ride facilities on the motorway outskirts and take a quick train or bus into town. Be aware that Glasgow’s city center has a Low Emissions Zone, so older vehicles may not be allowed without paying a fee.

For air travel, Glasgow Airport (GLA) is the main gateway. It’s about 10 miles west of the city and connects with buses, taxis and rideshares. The frequent Glasgow Airport Express bus #500 runs to Buchanan Street and Central Station in town, from where you can transfer to a local route to Glasgow Green. A taxi from GLA to the city center takes roughly 20-30 minutes. Alternatively, travelers sometimes fly into Edinburgh Airport (EDI) about 50 miles to the east; from Edinburgh you can take the Airlink bus or a train into Glasgow (around an hour journey). Once in central Glasgow, the directions above will get you to the festival grounds via public transport or taxi.

Since TRNSMT is a city festival (not a camping event), visitors stay in Glasgow itself. The city offers a wide range of accommodations for every budget. Many festival-goers book hotels or rentals near the City Centre or Merchant City (close to Buchanan Street and Central Station) to make travel easy. The vibrant West End – around Kelvingrove Park and the University – also has hotels, B&Bs and hostels (just a few subway stops away). Popular chains and boutique hotels abound along Union Street, Queen Street, or near Argyle Street, typically within a short taxi or bus ride to the park. No matter where you stay, book early as rooms fill up fast on festival weekends. Once you’re here, you’ll find plenty of restaurants, pubs and attractions to enjoy before or after the music each day.
