Neil Landstrumm

Neil Landstrumm is an electronic musician from Edinburgh, United Kingdom, active since 1994. His work spans experimental electronic music, techno and related bass-heavy forms, and he releases music through a range of international labels as well as his own imprint, Scandinavia.

Career

Landstrumm begins his professional career in 1994. He issues five experimental electronic albums, one art-rock-blues-beat album, and a number of 12-inch singles and remixes. His releases appear on labels including Peacefrog, Tresor, Sonic Groove, Mosquito and Scandinavia. He also works in motion graphics for MTV, Rockstar Games and The Magnificents.

He is based on live performance and builds his reputation on improvised and uncompromising shows. Performances are part of his practice rather than a studio-only approach, and he appears live in clubs and venues in cities including Tokyo, Paris, Berlin and London.

Collaborations and projects

Landstrumm collaborates with Cristian Vogel, Si Begg, Mike Fellows, Bill Youngman and Tobias Schmidt. His best-known collaboration is Sugar Experiment Station. He is also associated with Blue Arsed Fly, Shit and Cheap, and Modini.

Scandinavia

Scandinavia is Landstrumm’s own label and creative outlet. It functions as a production and release base for music, motion graphics and television idents, and also includes a print-based clothes label.

Style

His music includes bass-tech beats, grime, electro-techno, broken beat and Miami bass influences, alongside metallic, melodic and percussive elements. He works in live electronics and is identified with dubstep, techno, experimental techno and minimal techno.

Background

Landstrumm is native to Scotland and spends six years living in New York, where he takes in the culture and music of Brooklyn and Queens.
