Amy Macdonald

Amy Macdonald is a Scottish singer-songwriter from Bishopbriggs, near Glasgow. Born in 1987, she performs in a style that spans folk pop, folk rock, indie folk, indie rock, pop and pop rock. She releases music through Vertigo and Amy Macdonald Ltd.

Early life and start in music

Macdonald begins as a self-taught musician. She starts playing her father’s guitar after hearing Travis perform at the T in the Park festival in 2000, where their song “Turn” inspires her to learn it herself. She begins singing and playing in pubs and coffee houses around Glasgow at the age of 15.

Breakthrough and albums

She rises to wider attention in 2007 with her debut album This Is the Life, and its title track becomes a major international hit. The single reaches number one in six countries and enters the top ten in eleven more. Her first single is “Poison Prince”.

Her second studio album, A Curious Thing, follows in 2010. “Don’t Tell Me That It’s Over” is released as its lead single. Her third album, Life in a Beautiful Light, is released in 2012, with “Slow It Down” as the lead single.
