Shadowlands 2027 is a music festival at Gulbenkian Arts Centre, University of Kent, Canterbury, Kent, focused on alternative, electronic, avant-garde and experimental music.

1–4 July 2027 marks the inaugural edition. Capacity is limited to 450 tickets per day, and the festival runs across three performance spaces inside the Gulbenkian Arts Centre.

1993 links the event to David Sefton, who launched London’s Meltdown festival and is a co-founder of Shadowlands.

Lineup and Programme

Foetus, Lustmord, Test Dept, Warrington-Runcorn New Town Development Plan, Regis featuring Liam Andrews, Clock DVA, The Wolfgang Press, Githead, hackedepicciotto, People Like Us, Portion Control, Zoviet*France and Immersion are listed among the headline acts.

Foetus is scheduled to perform as a 20-piece chamber orchestra in a European exclusive. Lustmord is making a first UK appearance in around 19 years, and Githead is reuniting after a 13-year hiatus.

The programme also includes film screenings, panel discussions and artist Q&A sessions alongside live concerts.

Who Is It For?

20s–60s experimental and electronic music fans are the primary audience identified for Shadowlands.

The event is listed as all ages, but it is not specifically a child-focused or family event. Its small capacity and indoor arts-centre format suit audiences looking for a concentrated programme rather than a large outdoor camping festival.

The Venue and Site

Gulbenkian Arts Centre sits on the University of Kent campus in Canterbury.

The festival uses the Gulbenkian Theatre, Gulbenkian Cinema and Colyer-Fergusson Concert Hall. Facilities listed for the venue include a 340-seat theatre, a 300-seat cinema, the Colyer-Fergusson concert space and a café-bar.

No on-site camping is available. On-site 4–5 star campus accommodation is listed as available, with booking opening in September 2026.

Travel Information

Canterbury West is about a 30-minute walk from the Gulbenkian Arts Centre, and Canterbury East is about a 25-minute walk.
