hackedepicciotto

hackedepicciotto is a Berlin-based group made up of Alexander Hacke and Danielle de Picciotto. The pair have been working together for almost two decades and release their own compositions as a duo. They are also married.

Members

Danielle de Picciotto moves to Berlin in 1987 and becomes the lead singer of Space Cowboys. She also co-initiates the Love Parade and works with Gudrun Gut in the Ocean Club. Hacke is a founding member and bass player of Einstürzende Neubauten.

Music and performance

The duo work with acoustic soundscapes that combine atmosphere, intensity and electronic elements. Their live performances are described as intense. De Picciotto plays instruments including the hurdy-gurdy, autoharp and cemence, as well as violin and piano. She writes most of the lyrics. Hacke plays bass, guitar and drums, and also performs as a throat singer and vocalist. Their songs feature spoken word passages, choral sections, low bass lines and imagery such as birds, bees and wild wind.

Writing and collaborations

De Picciotto is the author of two books. Both artists also work on a wide range of international projects alongside their duo work.
