Shape Navigator
Shape Navigator is an ambient, dub and progressive house project by Peter Coyte. He works under this name as part of a wider career in composition and collaboration across music, theatre, film and installation work.
Recording history
The project signs to Guerilla Records, where it releases three singles and records an album that is not issued after the label folds. Coyte later signs to Almo Records and releases Flow Like a River, which features black Irish folk singer Evon Brennan on vocals. A further EP, Mystify EP, appears on Red Shift Records.
Related projects and collaborations
Coyte also joins with punk poet Salena Saliva Godden to form SaltPeter. That project is signed to Fred label and releases the album Hunger is the Best Sauce, which is reviewed by the Independent on Sunday as album of the year 2007.
Film, theatre and other work
Beyond Shape Navigator, Coyte continues to compose for theatre, film and installations. His theatre credits include work with Peepolykus, Big State Theatre Company, Holy Mountain, John Paul Zaccarini & Company F.Z., Gravity & Levity, Wrongsize and Mother Vision, including music for David Sant’s Pot Noodle The Musical.
His soundtrack work includes the documentary The Mothers’ House, directed by Francois Verster, and the feature film Fun, directed by Rafal Zielinski. He is also a member of The Ecosonic Ensemble.
