Steve Knightley

Steve Knightley is an English folk singer-songwriter and musician from the United Kingdom. Born in 1954, he is one half of the Devon-based acoustic folk and roots duo Show of Hands, alongside Phil Beer. The duo is often joined by bass player and singer Miranda Sykes for live work.

Career

Knightley performs both with Show of Hands and as a solo artist. He regularly mixes the duo’s live activity with solo touring, often accompanied by Devon singer-songwriter Jenna Witts. He is also associated with the acts Dream in Colours and Alianza.

Songwriting and recordings

Among his best-known songs are “Country Life”, “Roots” and “Cousin Jack”. His solo album Cruel River includes the songs “Poppy Day” and “Crooked Man ’97”; the latter is a direct criticism of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and his Iraq policy.

Notable appearances

In April 2007, Show of Hands sells out the Royal Albert Hall for the third time.
