B.Traits is a Canadian DJ and electronic music artist, born in 1986 and raised in Nelson, British Columbia. She moves to Vancouver in 2004 and becomes known there for DJ sets that draw on a wide range of dance music styles.

Background

She starts DJing at 16, using a turntable and headphones as a creative outlet and developing a style built around underground music. Her approach to mixing focuses on smooth transitions and on selecting tracks across many parts of the musical spectrum.

Career

After moving to Vancouver, B.Traits builds a reputation through club performances and a stage presence described as intense and atmospheric. In 2007, she joins Digital Soundboy Recordings after being recruited by Shy FX, becoming the label’s first female signing under the name “Digital Sound Girl”.

She tours internationally across Asia, Europe, the United States and Canada, and performs alongside leading electronic music artists. She also appears on BBC Radio 1 and Ministry of Sound, and is featured in magazines including MixMag, DJ Mag and Knowledge Mag. ATM magazine features her on its cover in July 2008.

Style

Her sets span electro, breakbeats, glitch hop, dubstep, drum and bass, reggae, dancehall, hip hop, funk and house. She is associated with the underground electronic scene and with drum and bass in particular, while also working across house and other club genres.
