One of the best things about Day One at FeastFest Cheam was just how relaxed it felt. Families were spread across the park on chairs and blankets, children were being entertained and groups of friends were enjoying the food and music as the atmosphere built throughout the afternoon.

A festival made for families

FeastyFest gets a lot right when it comes to making a festival comfortable for families.

Visitors are allowed to bring chairs and blankets, and even gazebos, making it possible to create your own little base for the day rather than having to spend hours on your feet.

Around the site there was plenty keeping younger festivalgoers entertained, including the Bubble Man, funfair attractions and rides, alongside the other children's activities.

It created a proper family day-out atmosphere, with parents able to relax over some food and a drink while the kids had plenty to explore.

And dogs are welcome too, so even four-legged members of the family didn't have to miss out.

Rock and dance on the Main Stage

Music ran throughout the day, with DJ & Host Dave G opening proceedings before The Dunwells and Jodie Yang Cooper.

The afternoon then brought some big familiar sounds with Forever Jackson, celebrating Michael Jackson, followed by Chilli Peppers bringing Red Hot Chili Peppers rock vibes to Cheam Park.

Beatles Dub Club changed the mood again during the evening before Ellie Sax brought the dance energy for her headline set.

It meant the Main Stage moved comfortably between live music, rock, pop, dub and dance – with something different seemingly every time you wandered back.

Old-school rave on the Secret Stage

Meanwhile, the Second / Secret Stage had a party of its own going on.

DJ Charlie Brown provided the afternoon soundtrack before DJ Debs & Big Pete, Killa P and General Levy pushed things towards old-school rave, jungle, reggae and soundsystem territory.

It was a great contrast to the Main Stage.

You could spend part of the afternoon listening to rock and live bands before walking across the festival and suddenly finding yourself in the middle of an old-school rave.

And there were plenty of people more than happy to have a dance.

Good food, drinks and plenty of smiles

Naturally, food remains a massive part of FeastyFest.

With loads to choose from around the site, eating and drinking is as much a part of the day as watching the music.

That's really what worked about Saturday.

You could arrive with the family, put down a blanket or chairs, grab something good to eat, let the kids enjoy the entertainment, catch some live music and then have a dance when the mood took you.

There were families, couples, groups of friends, children and dogs all sharing Cheam Park – and plenty of smiles and laughter wherever you looked.

Day One delivered exactly what FeastyFest does best: good food, good music and an easy-going festival atmosphere where everyone can join in.
