The Lumineers

The Lumineers are an American folk rock group from Ramsey, United States, active since 2008. The band is associated with alternative country, americana, country folk, folk, folk pop and folk rock, and releases music on The Lumineers label.

The group forms around Wesley Schultz on lead vocals and guitar and Jeremiah Fraites on drums and percussion. Schultz and Fraites begin writing and performing together in Ramsey, New Jersey in 2005, after first starting to collaborate in 2002 in New York. Their work together grows out of grief after the death of Fraites’ brother Josh, who is also Schultz’s best friend, from an overdose. They later move to Denver and meet classically trained cellist and vocalist Neyla Pekarek after advertising for a cellist. Pekarek joins in 2010 and is a member until 2018.

Their self-titled debut album is released in 2012 on Dualtone Records. Its first single, “Ho Hey”, reaches number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Billboard Alternative Songs chart. The band’s second album, Cleopatra, follows in 2016, and their third album, III, is released in 2019 and debuts at number two on the US Billboard 200. Their fourth album, BRIGHTSIDE, is released in 2022.
