Mr. Scruff is the recording name of English DJ and artist Andy Carthy, from Macclesfield, United Kingdom. He is born in 1972 and lives in Stockport, Greater Manchester. He studies fine art at the Psalter Lane campus of Sheffield Hallam University.

Before working full-time from music, he works as a shelf-stacker at the Burton Road branch of Kwik Save. He begins DJing in 1994, first in and around Manchester and then across the country. His DJ name comes from his scruffy facial hair and his loose-lined drawing style.

He is known for long DJ sets, often lasting more than six hours, and for an eclectic approach to records. His work is also associated with home-produced visuals and animations, and with a recurring interest in a “nice cup of tea”.
