Jessie Ware
Jessie Ware is an English singer-songwriter and podcaster from London. Raised in Clapham, she is educated at Alleyn's School and the University of Sussex, where she graduates with a degree in English literature. Before her recording career, she works in journalism and television production, including work for The Jewish Chronicle, The Daily Mirror and Love Productions.
Early career and collaborations
Ware begins her music career singing backing vocals for Jack Peñate and Man Like Me. She later collaborates with SBTRKT on "Nervous" and with Sampha on "Valentine", which is released on Young Turks in 2011. She also appears on Florence and the Machine's 2011 album Ceremonials. These early collaborations help lead to a record deal with PMR Records.
Albums and chart success
Her debut album Devotion is released in 2012 and reaches number five on the UK Albums Chart. It includes the singles "Running", "110%", "Wildest Moments" and "Night Light", and is nominated for the Mercury Prize. Her second album, Tough Love, follows in 2014 and reaches number nine in the UK. The album includes the title track and "Say You Love Me", which is co-written with Ed Sheeran.
Ware's third album, Glasshouse, is released in 2017 on Island Records and features contributions from Francis and the Lights, Ed Sheeran, Cashmere Cat and Julia Michaels. It reaches number seven in the UK. In 2020 she releases What's Your Pleasure?, which reaches number three in the UK and includes the singles "Adore You", "Mirage (Don't Stop)", "Spotlight" and "Overtime".
Other work
Ware and her mother present the food podcast Table Manners, which features weekly guests and is produced for Acast and Island Records. She also launches a premium kidswear collaboration called Anyware Kids in 2019.
Personal life and charity work
Ware is the daughter of Helena, a social worker, and John Ware, a BBC Panorama reporter, and the younger sister of actress Hannah Ware. Her mother is Jewish, and she is raised in that faith. She is married to Sam Burrows and has a daughter. Ware is a UNICEF UK ambassador and takes part in Band Aid 30 and the charity single "Artists for Grenfell".
