About The Green Gathering
Piercefield Park sits near Chepstow, sharing gates and a car park with Chepstow Racecourse. For 2027, The Green Gathering runs from 29 July to 1 August at Piercefield Park, Newport, Wales, as an arts festival rooted in off-grid culture. Capacity is 5,000.
Its roots run back to early-1980s Green Collective events at Worthy Farm, linked to the Ecology Party and Green Party. The Big Green Gathering Company formed in 1993, after which the Big Green Gathering grew from almost 2,000 people in 1994 to a 20,000 peak before its 2009 cancellation. The community regrouped in 2010. By 2011, the festival had settled into its current site near Chepstow.
The event runs as a non-profit, grassroots model with inclusive pricing, and sustainability work sits inside the site rather than around it. It won Greenest Festival at the UK Festival Awards in 2017, then pushed waste-reduction campaigns and renewably powered production through the following years. From 2022 to 2025, Assisted Access expanded, inclusion work grew and music stages reached 50:50 gender balance.
Lineup and Programme
The bill moves through folk, punk and reggae, with spoken word, comedy, cabaret, global grooves and psychedelia elsewhere on the programme. Stage names run from the Soundscape solar stage to Triban, Floating Lotus, Raconteurs’ Delight, The Uncommon and Speakers’ Forum. Soundscape runs on solar power.
Beyond the stages, the programme takes in practical workshops, craft sessions, campaign talks, permaculture, wellbeing and activities for children and teenagers. Performance runs beyond live music. Community campfires are part of the site plan in designated areas, weather permitting.
Who Is It For?
The crowd is mixed-age and community-minded, with families, activists, creatives and people interested in low-impact living and social justice. Under-18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Families are part of the build.
Ticketing runs from £0 to £225, including young adult, youth and child bands, plus adult early bird and higher-income adult tiers. Family camping, kids’ and teens’ activities, quiet camping and Assisted Access areas set the family and access pitch in practical terms.
The Venue and Site
Piercefield Park is the working site, with Chepstow Racecourse as the better-known neighbour for gates and the shared hardstanding car park. Camping is on site. Family, Quiet and General Camping sit alongside Assisted Access camping and the Glamping Glade.
Pre-pitched options cover tents, yurts, bell tents, tipis and tipi dormitories. The facilities are practical: accessible toilets and showers, composting toilets, water standpipes, food stalls and bars, a medical tent, welfare space, solar-powered phone charging, wheelbarrow and cargo trike hire, and the Crock ’n’ Rock reusable serveware service. Campfires and communal firepits are allowed only in designated areas, weather permitting.
