Vukovi

Vukovi are a Scottish alternative rock group active since 2010. The band forms as a two-piece in its later configuration, and its sound combines experimental, rock, pop and new wave elements with heavy guitar riffs and melodic vocals. It is associated with First Run Records and LAB Records.

Formation and name

The group begins with Hamish Reilly on guitar, Jason Trotter on bass and Martin Lynch on drums, who are originally three-quarters of a band called Wolves. After the departure of Wolves’ original singer, Janine Shilstone auditions in 2010 after being removed from another band. The four musicians feel an immediate musical connection, and the change in her contribution leads them to adopt a new name and start again as Vukovi. The name comes from the Serbian word for wolves.

Releases and development

In the years that follow, Vukovi focus on developing their live performances and building an audience, while putting out singles and EPs. Their releases include the Sweet Swears EP in 2012. The band later begins work on a self-titled debut album, which appears in 2017.

Line-up and style

The group features Janine Shilstone on vocals and synth, alongside Hamish Reilly on guitar, Jason Trotter on bass and Martin Lynch on drums. Their music is described as balancing heavy rock elements with catchy, melodic singing.
