The Used
The Used is an American rock band from Orem, United States, active since 2001. Its music is classified across alternative rock, emo, emo pop, emocore, pop punk and post-hardcore, and it is also described as an American post-hardcore band.
Career
The band signs to Reprise Records in late 2001 and rises to wider attention in 2002 with its self-titled debut album, The Used. Soon after, it releases the CD/DVD package Maybe Memories, which includes unreleased demos and a behind-the-scenes account of the band’s history.
The Used follows with In Love and Death in 2004 and Lies for the Liars in 2007. The latter reaches No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200. The band then releases the EP Shallow Believer in 2008, a collection of most of its B-sides to that point.
Work on the fourth studio album, Artwork, begins after the Taste of Chaos International tour in 2007. The band spends 2008 developing the material and records mainly at The Lair and NRG in Los Angeles with producer Matt Squire, finishing in early 2009. The album is shaped as a change from the band’s previous collaboration with producer John Feldmann, who produces the first three albums. The Used describes the material as “gross pop”, and the album includes the single “Blood On My Hands” alongside tracks such as “Empty With You” and “Cut Yourself”.
The band’s fifth album, Vulnerable, follows, with “I Come Alive” as its first single. That release is the first on the band’s own label, Anger Music Group, an imprint of Hopeless Records.
