Sam Fender is an English singer-songwriter from North Shields, United Kingdom. He is associated with alternative rock, heartland rock, indie rock and rock. Born Samuel Thomas Fender in 1994, he begins performing as a teenager in pubs around North Shields.

Career

Fender is named one of the BBC's Sound of 2018, alongside artists including Sigrid, Lewis Capaldi and Khalid. He receives the Brit Awards Critics’ Choice award for 2019. Early in his career, he is spotted in a pub by Owain Davies, Ben Howard’s manager, who then arranges for him to support Willy Mason.

Recordings and live work

His studio albums are Hypersonic Missiles, Seventeen Going Under and People Watching. He also appears on the main stages at festivals including Reading & Leeds, TRNSMT and Glastonbury.
