Palma Violets
Palma Violets are an English band from Lambeth, England, active from 2011 to 2018. They form around the partnership of Sam Fryer and Chilli Jesson, and the group line-up includes Will Doyle and Peter Mayhew alongside Fryer and Jesson. The band’s sound is rooted in garage rock revival and indie rock, with additional garage rock and psychedelic influences.
History and line-up
Palma Violets begin in 2011 in London. The group consists of Sam Fryer on vocals and guitar, Chilli Jesson on vocals and bass, Peter Mayhew on keyboards, and Will Doyle on drums. After the band ends, Sam Fryer, Pete Mayhew and Will Doyle form Gently Tender.
Releases and recognition
The band’s first single, Best of Friends, is voted NME’s song of the year for 2012. Their second single, Step Up For The Cool Cats, is released in February. Their debut album, 180, is released in 2013, followed by Danger in the Club in 2015.
End of activity
After Danger in the Club, the band becomes quiet on social media, and their split is confirmed in 2018.
