Molotov Jukebox

Molotov Jukebox is a London-based group active since 2008. It is associated with the gypstep genre and is built around the vocalist and accordion player Natalia Tena.

Formation and line-up

The band forms after singer Nat, who also plays accordion, meets her partner Sam, a violinist. Their performances bring together the rest of the group. The current line-up listed here includes Natalia Tena, Sam Apley, Tom Wilson, Angus Moncrieff, Adam Burke and Rami Sherington. Rami Sherington replaces Max on drums and percussion.

Style

Molotov Jukebox describes its music as Tropical Gypsy, which is also the title of one of its albums. Its sound combines upbeat reggae, gypsy dance and funk with pop choruses. The band also draws on Spanish flamenco, British house, Romanian trumpet sounds, ska, folk fiddle and accordion, all underpinned by Natalia Tena’s vocals.
