Mixmaster Morris

Mixmaster Morris is an experimental electronic artist from Brighton, United Kingdom, born in 1965. He emerges from the London pirate-radio scene of the 1980s and works under several names, including Morris Gould, the Mixmaster, Rhythm Method and the Irresistible Force.

Early work and aliases

He begins recording as Rhythm Method before adopting the Irresistible Force name in 1985, when he starts collaborating with Des De Moor. That partnership is short-lived, but it leads to Madhouse and to work associated with the development of electronica and rave-era dance music. He also performs briefly with Meat Beat Manifesto and The Shamen.

Chillout and ambient releases

In the early 1990s, Mixmaster Morris appears regularly at Heaven, the chillout club associated with Dr Alex Paterson of The Orb. Under the Irresistible Force name, he releases Flying High in 1992, followed by Global Chillage in 1994 and It’s Tomorrow Already in 1998. These records are part of his work in ambient and chillout music, built from loops, beats and samples and aimed at creating hypnotic, dreamlike soundscapes.

Later activity

He remains mainly a live performer after the 1990s, with some collaborative releases on Ninja Tune. His work is closely associated with ambient chillout and experimental electronic music, and Dreamfish is listed among his associated acts.
