Lion

Lion is a name used by several different acts, including a 1980s hard rock and heavy metal band from the United States, a jazz-style rock group from Birmingham, and a techno producer alias. The name is also associated with other artists in reggae, drum and bass, punk rock, experimental metal, calypso, soul, and other styles.

1980s hard rock and heavy metal band

Lion form in 1983, originally under the name Lyon, and include Doug Aldrich and Kal Swan in the line-up. The band play hard rock and heavy metal and are best known for the theme song they record for the 1986 Transformers film. They release two studio albums, Dangerous Attraction in 1987 and Trouble in Angel City in 1989.

The group’s music also appears in film soundtracks: “Love Is a Lie” features in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter in 1984, while “Never Surrender” and “Power Love” appear in The Wraith in 1986. Lion later return to update the Transformers theme for a remastered DVD release. The band split in 1989 after a member breaks his neck in a motorcycle accident.

Birmingham rock band

Another Lion is a jazz-style rock band from Birmingham, UK. After leaving Judas Priest, Al Atkins forms the group on vocals. The line-up includes Bruno, Jim Perry on drums, and Harry Tonks on guitar. The band records “Reminiscence Part 1 and 2”, then later records the single “Journey” and “On The Wheel” at Gentle Giant’s Petal Studio in Leeds.

Jim Perry leaves and is replaced by Pete Boot from Budgie, after which the group moves away from the earlier conga-led approach toward a more straightforward rock sound. Despite continuing through the punk era, the band disbands around 1978.

Techno producer alias

Lion is also an alias of Takayuki Ishikawa, known as DJ Taka, in techno production.
