Kings of Leon

Kings of Leon are an American rock band from Nashville, United States, formed in 1999. The group consists of brothers Caleb Followill, Nathan Followill and Jared Followill, together with their cousin Matthew Followill. They are associated with alternative rock, garage rock, garage rock revival, indie rock, pop rock and rock, and their early work also draws on Southern rock and blues influences.

Career

The band’s sound develops over time from Southern rock and garage rock into a broader alternative and arena rock style. Their first studio albums are Youth & Young Manhood and Aha Shake Heartbreak, followed by Because of the Times, which reaches No. 1. In the UK, Kings of Leon gain early success with nine Top 40 singles and two BRIT Awards in 2008, and their first three albums all reach the top five of the UK Albums Chart.

With Only by the Night, the band achieves wider success in the United States. The singles “Sex on Fire”, “Use Somebody” and “Notion” all reach number one on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. The album becomes their first platinum-selling release in the US and the best-selling album of 2008 in Australia, where it is certified platinum nine times.

Later albums

The group continues with Come Around Sundown, Mechanical Bull, Walls and When You See Yourself. Across their career, Kings of Leon receive 12 Grammy Award nominations and win four of them.
