King Charles is a London-born singer-songwriter whose music is described across indie, folk and rock styles, including alternative rock, folk rock, indie pop, indie rock and surf. Born in 1988, he grows up in London, takes up guitar after becoming interested in country music, and starts writing his own songs at 17.

After a year at Durham University, he returns to London in 2007 without completing a degree and adopts the name King Charles. He forms Adventure Playground, a band based around West London’s Bosun’s Locker, and tours with Laura Marling and Noah and the Whale before the group disbands in 2008.

Solo career

King Charles launches his solo career with the single Time of Eternity in 2010. The release brings him press attention, online support and radio play from presenters including Tom Robinson, Rob Da Bank, Zane Lowe, Lauren Laverne and Huw Stephens. In early 2010 he wins the International Songwriting Competition by unanimous vote from a panel that includes Tom Waits, Kings of Leon, Timbaland, Black Francis and Jerry Lee Lewis.

He continues to perform across the UK and Europe and builds a following through live shows. He later supports Mumford & Sons on their US tour and Panic! At The Disco on their European tour.

Recordings and labels

King Charles signs a global US deal with Universal Republic in partnership with his UK independent label, Mi7 Records. He records his debut album and the album is released to critical acclaim.
