Hybrid Minds

Hybrid Minds are a UK drum and bass duo consisting of Josh White and Matt Lowe. They work in drum and bass and electronic music, with a style centred on liquid and melodic forms of the genre.

Style and background

The duo draws on trip-hop, acoustic music, soul and R&B, alongside bass music influences. Before forming Hybrid Minds, White and Lowe run a record label together for several years, with a focus on the more dancefloor-oriented side of drum and bass. They later move towards a more melodic approach and begin making smoother collaborations under the Hybrid Minds name.

Releases and recognition

Hybrid Minds quickly establish themselves in the liquid drum and bass scene. One of their first tracks, The Place, becomes one of the biggest tracks of 2011 and helps define their soulful sound. Their releases include the Lost EP on Audioporn, which receives more than half a million views on UKF, and the follow-up Heartfelt EP on Austrian label Mainframe. They also record a remix of Jakwob’s Blinding.

Labels and later output

The duo also issue a string of singles on Spearhead, Allsorts and Fokuz. Their music is associated with some of the most respected labels in the liquid drum and bass scene, and they become known for their smooth, melodic brand of liquid D&B.
