Claptone

Claptone is a Berlin-based DJ and producer duo made up of Daniel Brems and Christoph Göttsch. The act works across house, deep house, electronic, nu disco and disco, and is also associated with dance, EDM and tech house. Claptone begins in 2012 and is known for maintaining a masked, anonymous public image.

Style and identity

Claptone presents itself through a theatrical, mysterious persona built around a golden mask and a bird-like figure. The project’s sets centre on house music with strong grooves and a flexible mood, moving between soulful, energetic and more restrained material. The act also designs its own masks and T-shirts.

DJ work and events

Claptone performs internationally and is described as playing more than 260 shows a year. In 2017, the project launches The Masquerade, an immersive event series that travels to cities including Los Angeles, Rio, Berlin, Paris, New York and Barcelona. The series also returns to Ibiza and includes all-night shows with Elrow at Amnesia. Other editions take place in Brazil, at Melt Festival, in Los Angeles for Halloween, and in an arena at Tomorrowland.

Recordings and remixes

Claptone releases remixes of artists including Depeche Mode, New Order, Disclosure, Faithless, Bastille, Hurts and Gorillaz. The track The Drums receives strong support from BBC Radio 1 and becomes a festival and Ibiza favourite. The weekly Clapcast podcast is broadcast on more than 70 radio stations.

Recognition

Claptone wins Best House Artist at the Ibiza DJ Awards for three consecutive years and places highest among house acts in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJs poll, as well as second among underground artists in that poll. The project also appears on BBC Radio 1’s Ibiza Weekender.
