Blood Red Shoes
Blood Red Shoes is an English alternative rock duo from Brighton, made up of Laura-Mary Carter and Steven Ansell. The group forms in 2004 and remains active, with a sound associated with alternative rock, garage rock, grunge, indie rock, post-punk and punk.
Career
The duo forms in late 2004 after Ansell and Carter’s previous bands, Cat on Form and Lady Muck, break up. Their name comes from a Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire musical, where Rogers turns a pair of white dancing shoes red through repeated practice.
Blood Red Shoes release six full-length albums: Box of Secrets, Fire Like This, In Time to Voices, Blood Red Shoes, Get Tragic and Ghosts on Tape. Box of Secrets appears in 2008, followed by Fire Like This in 2010, In Time to Voices in 2012, Blood Red Shoes in 2014, Get Tragic in 2019 and Ghosts on Tape in 2022. The band also releases several EPs and a number of singles.
The single It’s Getting Boring By The Sea appears on the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World soundtrack.
Label
In 2014, Blood Red Shoes founds its own label, Jazz Life. Their debut album, Box of Secrets, is released on Mercury Records after the sale of V2 to Universal.
