Dave Grohl to receive NME Godlike Genius Award

The Shockwaves NME awards 2011 has announced that the prestigious NME Godlike Genius Award will go to rock legend Dave Grohl

The Shockwaves NME Awards takes place at the iconic Brixton Academy on February 23Rd and joining the winner Dave Grohl collecting his award will be the Foo Fighters who will play at this event. Dave Grohl has proved himself as a rock God from drumming in Nirvana to being the frontman of Foo Fighters and his side projects involved playing with Queens of the Stone Age, Probot and super group, Them Crooked Vultures. Previous winners include, Paul Weller, The Cure, Manic Street Preachers, Primal Scream, Ian Brown, New Order & Joy Division. 

Commenting on the Godlike Genius Award Dave Grohl said: "I don't think I'm godlike or a genius. It's flattering, it's a nice thing to be acknowledged for doing something you love to to...In truth I don't consider it a body of work because I don't consider it work"

The Shockwaves NME Award shows are due to take over the London nightlife throughout February. Headline acts include Mystery Jets, Noah and the Whale, Edwyn Collins, White Lies, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Warpaint, Caribou and Carl Barat who will take over iconic London venues to celebrate this year's awards.
