About Knockengorroch Festival
Founded by Simon and Liz Holmes in 1998, Knockengorroch Festival 2027 runs at Knockengorroch, Dumfries as a roots-led music festival.
It began as Ceilidh Gall Gallowa’.
The 2027 edition is scheduled for 27–30 May 2027. The official site describes Knockengorroch as Scotland’s longest running greenfield festival, and council licensing papers list a 5,000 capacity with recent paying visitors typically around 1,500–1,800, excluding staff, volunteers and services.
Lineup and Programme
The bill leans across roots music, folk, world music, alternative, country/americana and funk. Live music and DJ sets sit alongside workshops, children’s activities, open sessions, storytelling and performance.
Busker’s Corner is named on the site.
Named stages and spaces include Bo Airigh Stage, Giddy Up, Fraoch Tent, LANGwhan (LonghousE), Clann Tent, Disgee Tent, Wierdstrings Tent and Busker’s Corner.
Who Is It For?
The audience is intergenerational, with families, roots/world-music listeners and workshop audiences in the mix.
All ages are welcome. Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult, and the festival says it is run by a family, for families.
The Venue and Site
The farm site sits in an upland riverside setting, four miles from the public road. On site, the layout includes an outdoor music stage, a bar tent, three large marquees for bands/DJs/workshops, and one indoor venue with step-free access.
Camping is on site. Campervan tickets are available, with quiet family camping upriver and accessible camping by request.
Disgee, the Centre for Food, Art and Learning, was built for the 25th year in 2023. Giddy Up followed in 2026 as a space combining elements of the Shieling, Maddie’s and Taigh tents.
Free showers are listed. Accessible toilets are in all fields and the accessible campsite, and first aid and welfare has 24-hour cover.
