William Tyler

William Tyler is an American guitarist and musician from Nashville, Tennessee. He works in folk, indie folk and pop rock, and is associated with acoustic guitar and instrumental music. He is a member of Lambchop and also appears in The Impossible Truth, William Tyler & The Impossible Truth, A Merge Group, and Paul Burch and William Tyler. He is linked to Spooky Buffalo Music Inc and has also been signed to Merge Records.

Background

William Armistead Tyler is born in Nashville in 1979. He is the son of Daniel E. “Dan” Tyler and Adele B. Tyler. His father is a songwriter who writes for country acts including LeAnn Rimes, S-K-O, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and The Oak Ridge Boys, and both parents co-write “Bobbie Sue” for The Oak Ridge Boys. Tyler has a younger sister, Elise.

Tyler and Elise Tyler own and found The Stone Fox in Nashville, a music restaurant, café and bar. The venue opens in 2012 and holds its final live show in 2016. Tyler is a 1998 graduate of University School of Nashville, while Elise graduates in 2002.

Career

Tyler first joins Lambchop in 1998, after Kurt Wagner asks him to play organ in the band. He is not able to play organ well at the time, so he ends up playing guitar instead. He is also a member of Silver Jews, beginning in 1998, before his solo work develops.

His debut studio album, Behold the Spirit, is released in 2010 on Tompkins Square Records and is produced by Adam Bednarik with Tyler. His second studio album, Impossible Truth, follows in 2013 on Merge Records.
