Vant

Vant are a British indie rock band from London, active since 2014. The group forms around frontman and songwriter Mattie Vant and consists of Martin Söderin, Henry Eastham, Billy Morris, Mattie Vant and David Green.

History

The band forms in London while Mattie Vant works at the Dalston venue Birthdays. It signs to Parlophone Records in 2015. Vant tours through 2015, appears with Royal Blood, and joins DIY Magazine’s NEU tour alongside The Big Moon and InHeaven. During that period, it also plays several festivals, including Reading and Leeds Festivals, Secret Garden Party and Dot To Dot Festival.

At the start of 2016, Vant appears on BBC Radio 1’s Future Festival and tours the UK and Europe through the beginning of the year. It continues to play festivals over the summer, including Glastonbury Festival, 2000 Trees, Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival, and Reading and Leeds Festivals, as well as one-off dates with Biffy Clyro and Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Music and releases

The band’s lyrics often focus on political themes, with Mattie Vant drawing inspiration from global issues. Its debut album, Dumb Blood, is released in February 2017 and peaks at number 46 on the UK Albums Chart. The group later announces an indefinite hiatus in October 2017 and says its tour The Last Days Of Punk is its final run, alongside a final mini-album titled TALK LIKE THUNDER.

In 2018 and 2019, Vant shifts style, with a black-screen visual change on its social media pages and a move away from its earlier punk rock sound toward a hip-hop and pop-influenced approach. It releases the single “Thank Lucifer” in January 2019, followed by the EP Exoskeleton in April 2019.
