Tinderbox

Tinderbox are a UK acoustic folk/rock duo featuring Monique Houraghan and Dan Tucker. They begin writing and performing original material in 1997 and remain active. Houraghan is noted for her distinctive honey-like vocal style, while Tucker plays intricate finger-style guitar.

Style and influences

The duo draws on folk and rock elements and develops a varied repertoire. Their influences include James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Counting Crows, the Eagles and Jewel.

History and performance

Tinderbox spend four creative years living in Dublin between 1997 and 2001, then travel widely for two years. During that period they gain an agent in Australia and play numerous shows in Melbourne and Sydney. They also perform in Germany, Hong Kong, Fiji, New Zealand, Australia and Thailand. After returning to the UK, they settle in Bournemouth, where they have lived since late 2004.

Reception

The duo’s performances receive strong reviews, and one German critic describes them as “a miracle in a small matchbox”. They continue to promote their songs through live performance and their official website.
