Tim Burgess

Tim Burgess is a British rock and indie vocalist from Salford, England, born in 1967. He is best known as the lead singer of The Charlatans, a role he takes up in 1989. The band signs to Beggars Banquet Records in 1990.

Early work and collaborations

Before joining The Charlatans, Burgess is the singer in The Electric Crayons. He also appears as a guest vocalist on Saint Etienne’s 1993 Christmas single “I Was Born on Christmas Day”.

In 1995, he sings on The Chemical Brothers track “Life Is Sweet” from their debut album Exit Planet Dust. He later collaborates with the duo again on “The Boxer” from Push the Button in 2004.

Solo work and later projects

Burgess releases his debut solo album, I Believe, in 2003. He also contributes guest vocals to the Mexican band Zoé’s album Memo Rex Commander y el Corazón Atómico de la Vía Láctea.

Alongside The Libertines’ Carl Barât, he is a member of The Chavs, a group described as playing only once a year at the Tap'n'Tin club in Chatham, Kent.

With The Charlatans

After I Believe, Burgess returns with The Charlatans for Up at the Lake in 2004. In 2006, the band releases Simpatico, which shifts towards reggae and ska influences.
