Super Sometimes
Super Sometimes are a pop punk band from San Diego, California. The quartet includes Gabriel Muñoz on vocals and guitar, Dylan Guzman on vocals and guitar, Matthew Ludwig on drums and Matthew Anliker on bass. They are signed to Pure Noise Records.
The band forms around Guzman and Ludwig, who meet at School of Rock as children and bond over bands such as State Champs while covering classic rock songs. Later, after Guzman gets Knuckle Puck to bring him on stage to play guitar at a San Diego show, Muñoz’s father is in the crowd, and the group begins to take shape.
Super Sometimes draw on a mix of pop punk traditions, from skate punk urgency to the polished hooks associated with the Drive-Thru Records era and the confessional style of Tumblr-era bands. Songs associated with the band include “Spork,” “Losing This Game” and “Complacent.”
The band plays a DIY style of punk informed by both older scene influences and contemporary social media use. They perform at venues including Chain Reaction and SOMA in Southern California, and they support acts such as State Champs, Hawthorne Heights and Real Friends. They also appear at festivals including Is For Lovers and Furnace Fest.
Anliker is the only member over 21. The band is described as one of the newer voices in the underground scene, with a reputation for a strong work ethic and close attention to their songs and performances.
