Stealing Signs are a four-piece band from South Woodham Ferrers, Essex. The group consists of four friends who play a blend of indie rock, rock and pop with a strong rhythmic focus, built around beats, guitar parts and bass lines.

Style and influences

Their music sits mainly within indie rock, but it also draws on dance-pop and Britpop-influenced elements. They are described as combining shuffling, upbeat rock with a danceable feel. Their influences include Broken Social Scene, the Black Keys, Foals, Michael Jackson, the Maccabees, Phoenix, Mystery Jets and Foo Fighters.

Background

The band is presented as the result of four friends being brought together with instruments after growing up on 1980s and 1990s film classics, including Short Circuit, Home Alone, Pay It Forward and Back to the Future. This sense of shared upbringing and pop culture reference is part of the way their sound is characterised.
