Skerryvore
Skerryvore is a Scottish Celtic rock group from Scotland, formed in 2004. The band begins in Tiree, Argyll and Bute, where Daniel Gillespie and Fraser West start playing ceilidh music together at functions before developing the project into a full group. The act is currently based in Glasgow.
Name and style
The group takes its name from the Skerryvore lighthouse, which stands off the coast of Tiree. Its music is associated with folk, Scottish folk rock and Celtic influences.
Releases and recognition
Skerryvore issues a series of studio albums, along with a compilation album and a live album. Its debut album, West Coast Life, is named album of the month on BBC Radio Scotland’s Celtic Connections programme in 2005. The follow-up album, On the Road, is released in 2007 and is re-pressed within a week of release.
Performances and touring
The band tours across Europe, the United States, the Middle East and China. It performs at festivals including Celtic Connections, Hebridean Celtic Festival, MOK Festival, and MagiaCeltica and Celtica festivals in Italy and the Netherlands. Skerryvore also appears alongside acts such as Peatbog Faeries, Red Hot Chilli Pipers, Lingalad and Sensational Alex Harvey Band, and performs with Donnie Munro and Wolfstone at the Rock Celtic festival at Glamis Castle.
US debut
Skerryvore makes its US debut in 2008, accompanying Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond at performances during the Ryder Cup in Louisville, Kentucky, before playing to audiences in Chicago.
