Sinkane

Sinkane is a music project led by Ahmed Gallab, a multi-instrumentalist based in Brooklyn. Born in London and raised in Sudan, Utah and Ohio, Gallab shapes the project’s sound from a wide range of influences, including funk, jazz, afrobeat, shoegaze, dream pop, krautrock and drone.

Albums and label

Sinkane releases music on DFA Records and has issued seven studio albums. Among them are Color Voice, Sinkane, Mars and Mean Love.

Live line-up and other work

Live, Gallab is joined by Jonny Lam on guitar, Michael “Ish” Montgomery on bass guitar, and Jason Trammell on drums. The wider group also includes Elenna Canlas and Amanda Khiri. Outside Sinkane, Gallab leads The Atomic Bomb Band, a William Onyeabor cover band whose line-up includes David Byrne, Money Mark, Luke Jenner of The Rapture, Alexis Taylor of Hot Chip and Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem and The Juan Maclean. He has also played with Caribou, Of Montreal, Born Ruffians and Yeasayer.
