Ralegh Long

Ralegh Long is a London-based singer-songwriter, composer and multi-instrumentalist who also records as Eagle Lake and Kyūka. He performs solo and with The Restoration. Raised in the English countryside, he draws on childhood experiences of exploring fields and streams, and much of his early music is recorded on a 1970s reel-to-reel tape recorder given to him by a neighbour.

Early releases and solo work

Long releases his debut single, Shtick, under his own name in 2010. His first album, Hoverance, follows in 2015 and draws comparisons with Nick Drake. The album receives praise from Lauren Laverne and Guy Garvey on BBC Radio 6 Music, and The Guardian highlights its “twilit ambience” and “spooky pastoralism”. His second album, Upwards of Summer, appears in 2017, and his third album, Blue Nights, follows in 2021.

Film, television and instrumental projects

Alongside his artist releases, Long writes for film and television. He contributes music to the BAFTA-nominated films Black Pond and The Darkest Universe, and later scores the BBC television series Ghosts, including its second and third seasons. He also writes original songs for Disney+’s Big Shot and Netflix’s Somebody Feed Phil.

Kyūka and labels

As Kyūka, Long develops a solo piano project, with music appearing on playlists such as Spotify’s Peaceful Piano and Apple’s Piano Chill. Under the Eagle Lake name, he is signed to Musicbed, a company that curates music for filmmakers and creatives.

Style and recognition

His work is described through a mix of simple melodies, unusual sounds and introspective writing, with a strong emphasis on mood, orchestration and story. Several singles, including Where You Are and Super Blue Moon, gather more than 8 million streams on Spotify.
