Phil Fearon & Galaxy is the name associated with British producer, singer, songwriter and keyboardist Phil Fearon, who is born in 1956 and fronts the 1980s act Galaxy. Before forming Galaxy, Fearon is a member of the band Kandidate.

Galaxy

Galaxy is not a conventional band in the usual sense. It functions as a studio-based project built around Fearon’s writing, production and performance, with two female backing singers, Julie Gore and Dorothy Galdes, adding to the recorded sound.

The project is associated with early 1980s pop and funk-influenced synth music, with prominent keyboards and synthesizers. Its best-known singles are “Dancing Tight”, “What Do I Do” and “Everybody’s Laughing”, all of which reach the UK Singles Chart Top Ten. Another later single, a version of “Ain’t Nothing but a Houseparty”, appears as an early example of the acid house direction that becomes more prominent later in the decade.

Production and later work

By the mid-1980s, Galaxy’s popularity declines as musical trends shift towards acid house. In 1987, Fearon founds and manages Production House Records with Laurie Jago and Raj Malkani, moving from performing into producing other acts.
