Nervus

Nervus is a Watford-based group whose music spans alternative rock, drum and bass, emo, indie rock, math rock, pop and punk rock. The band forms in 2015 around the songs of Em Foster, developing from a set of bedroom demos into a full line-up with the addition of Watford musicians Paul on keys and vocals, Karl on bass and Jack on drums.

Early recordings

The band writes and records Permanent Rainbow at Titan Studios in Watford, a studio also associated with Gallows, Lower Than Atlantis and Krokodil. The record presents songs about sorrow, anxiety, regret and other personal struggles, with lyrics dealing with relationships, alcohol and gender identity. It is issued as a collaborative release between Venn Records and The LP Cafe.

Style and themes

Nervus is known for a sound that combines rawness with melody and pairs concise writing with more expansive song structures. Its material focuses on emotional honesty and personal experience, and the group’s work is closely identified with themes of authenticity and self-examination.
