MistaJam is a DJ and radio presenter from Nottingham, known for work across UK black music, grime, dubstep and drum and bass. He presents shows on BBC Radio 1Xtra and BBC Radio 1, and is described as a UMA award-winning broadcaster.

Broadcasting

On BBC Radio 1Xtra, MistaJam presents a weekday evening show that runs from 7pm to 10pm and focuses on new black music across different genres. The programme is designed to connect mainstream and specialist audiences, and includes regular live performances from BBC Maida Vale Studios under the title Jam Sessions. He is also heard on BBC Radio 1 with 1Xtra Mixtape with MistaJam, a Saturday overnight programme that forms part of the station’s urban music strand.

DJ work and early career

He grows up listening to his parents’ records and starts DJing for local dances at the age of 14. He later DJs for the Nottingham hip hop crew Out Da Ville and for a local radio station. With associate Joe Buhdha, he runs SureShot Entertainment and organises the UK Takeover UK HipHop events.

Acting

Alongside his broadcasting and DJ work, MistaJam also acts. He trains at Nottingham’s Central Junior Television Workshop with Toby Kebbell and Samantha Morton. His screen appearances include Peak Practice, EastEnders, a regular role as Minty in the 2001 revival of Crossroads, and the BBC Three sitcom Trexx And Flipside, where he appears as Trexx.
