Laura Jones is a British house and techno DJ and producer from the United Kingdom. She develops a reputation as both a selector and a producer, with activity centred on underground house, deep house and tech house.
Career
Jones emerges in 2011 with Love IN Me, a track that brings her wider attention. She builds a profile as a DJ who also has strong production skills, and plays at clubs and events including Circoloco and Fabric, as well as Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival, the Warehouse Project, Mysteryland, Richie Hawtin’s Enter Night in Ibiza and Back To Basics in Leeds.
Background and musicianship
She begins collecting music from an early age, buying vinyl after discovering underground music on an Ibizan dancefloor. Her production work draws on classical training, including more than twelve years of piano study and three years of cello and clarinet, which informs her sense of composition beyond the computer-based studio process. She also has a visible stage identity, including trademark orange sunglasses worn because of an eye condition that requires protective glasses.
Recordings and labels
Jones releases tracks, EPs and a compilation CD on labels including Leftroom, Visionquest and Crosstown Rebels. As a remixer, she works on house tracks such as Romanthony’s Let Me Show You Love, Hollis P Monroe’s I’m Lonely and Todd Terry’s Bounce to the Beat.
Residencies and reputation
She holds a residency at Back To Basics in Leeds and becomes closely associated with Circoloco and Fabric. Her reputation rests on her ability both to perform as a DJ and to produce material with depth and style.
