Kim Churchill
Kim Churchill is an Australian singer-songwriter and musician from Canberra and Merimbula, born in 1990. He works across folk, rock and blues, and is associated with acoustic performance and indie folk songwriting.
Music style
Churchill’s guitar playing combines intricate fingerpicking, percussive rhythms on the body of the guitar, two-handed tapping, stomp-box accompaniment, blues harmonica lines and a soulful vocal style. His songs draw on a coastal upbringing on Australia’s east coast, including life with the surf nearby, and on a more nomadic life spent on the road.
Career and recognition
He appears at major Australian folk and blues events including Woodford Folk Festival and Byron Bay Blues and Roots Festival. In 2009 he wins National Youth Folk Artist of the Year. He also tours and performs with a range of prominent Australian artists, sharing bills with Xavier Rudd, Ben Harper and John Butler.
Television performance
In 2009, Churchill performs his song “It’s This System” on Channel 9’s Rugby League Footy Show Grand Final special, reaching a large television audience.
Label
Churchill is associated with Indica Records.
