Jake Bugg
Jake Bugg is an English singer-songwriter from Clifton, United Kingdom, whose work spans alternative rock, blues, folk, indie folk, indie rock and singer-songwriter styles. His birth name is Jake Edwin Charles Kennedy.
Early life
He grows up in the Clifton council estate in Nottingham and comes from a musical family. His parents separate when he is young; his father, David Bugg, works as a nurse and his mother works in sales, and both have previously made recordings. He starts playing guitar at the age of 12 after his uncle Mark introduces him to the instrument.
He attends Farnborough School Technology College in Clifton and is enrolled on a music technology course before leaving education by the age of 16. Around the same time, he writes and performs his own songs.
Musical influences
He identifies hearing Don McLean’s “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)” on an episode of The Simpsons as a formative moment when he is 12 years old.
