Hannah Peel

Hannah Peel is a Northern Irish composer, producer and artist from Craigavon, County Armagh, born in 1985. Her solo work is mainly electronic and synthesiser-led, and it often draws on classical scoring and sound design. Her music also refers to the connections between science, nature and music.

Solo work and style

Peel’s releases combine electronic textures with classical elements, and her work includes references to middle eastern melodies, Asian folk elements and classical European keys. She says her work is shaped by interests in the golden age of cinema and Italo Calvino’s Invisible Cities, along with themes of urban loneliness, changing relationships and hopes for the future.

She releases solo music on her own label, My Own Pleasure Records. Among these releases are Awake but Always Dreaming and Mary Casio: Journey to Cassiopeia / Particles in Space. Awake but Always Dreaming is awarded Electronic Sound Magazine’s #1 Electronic Album of the Year for 2016.

Collaborations and groups

Alongside her solo work, Peel works on orchestrations and conducting for Paul Weller. She also records with the Faber poet Will Burns and is a member of The Magnetic North, John Foxx and the Maths, In The Shadows of Steam, and Hannah Peel & Will Burns.

Screen and stage composition

Peel composes for television, film, theatre and dance. Her credits include the documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch, which is her first feature-length film score, and the Channel 5 drama The Deceived, written by Lisa McGee.
