Career

She is best known for the single “Dreams”, her debut release, which reaches number one in the UK in 1993 after entering the chart at number two. It becomes the highest-charting debut by a new act in the UK at that point and stays at the top for three weeks. The song is also notable for its use of a sample from Tracy Chapman’s “Fast Car”, which is requested but not cleared.

Gabrielle has a problem with one eye and, in different periods of her career, wears an eyepatch, a long side-swept fringe, or dark glasses to conceal it.
