Errors

Errors are an electronic group from Glasgow, Scotland, active since 2004. The line-up consists of Greg Paterson, James Hamilton, Stephen Livingstone and Simon Ward. The band forms around Ward, Livingstone and Paterson, who begin with a three-track demo recorded in Simon Ward’s bedroom, and later add Hamilton as a full-time member in 2005 after he becomes part of the live set-up and plays on the debut 7-inch Hans Herman.

Career and recordings

Errors develop a reputation in Glasgow with their instrumental approach to dance music and a sound that combines electronic and analogue elements. Mogwai support the group early on and sign them to Rock Action, the label associated with acts including Part Chimp and James Orr Complex. Through Rock Action, Errors release a run of 7-inch singles, EPs and their debut album, It’s Not Something But It Is Like Whatever.

The band’s second album, Come Down With Me, is recorded and produced by the group in their Glasgow East End studio, The Freezer. The record continues the band’s blend of angular guitars, beats, synths and pop hooks, and includes tracks such as “Bridge or Cloud?”, “Beards” and “A Rumour In Africa”.

Reception and touring

Errors receive support from mainstream media outlets and broadcasters including MTV, NME, Dazed and Confused, Rock Sound, and DJs such as Zane Lowe, John Kennedy and Vic Galloway. They also record sessions at Maida Vale for Mary Anne Hobbs, Rob Da Bank and Huw Stephens.

The group tour widely, playing their own headline shows as well as dates with Underworld, Franz Ferdinand, Explosions In The Sky, Gary Numan and Mogwai.
