Embrace

Embrace are a British indie group from Bailiff Bridge, West Yorkshire, England, active since 1993. The band is a five-piece line-up made up of brothers Danny McNamara and Richard McNamara, along with Steve Firth, Mickey Dale and Mike Heaton. Danny McNamara is the singer, Richard McNamara plays guitar, Firth plays bass, Dale plays keyboards and Heaton plays drums.

Career

Embrace work in alternative rock, britpop, indie pop, indie rock, piano rock and pop rock, and are also tagged with emo, post-hardcore, britpop, indie and hardcore. Their releases include six studio albums: The Good Will Out, Drawn From Memory, If You've Never Been, Out of Nothing, This New Day, Embrace and Love Is A Basic Need. They also release the compilation albums Fireworks, a singles collection, and Dry Kids, a B-sides collection.

The band scores three number one albums, six top ten singles, and has sold more than a million albums. It also records the official England World Cup song. After a long gap, Embrace return with a self-titled album in 2014, issued on Cooking Vinyl, and that record reaches number five in the UK chart. In 2018, Firth and Heaton co-form the punk rock band Land Sharks.

Other act using the name

The name Embrace is also used by a short-lived Washington, D.C. post-hardcore band active from 1985 to 1986, associated with the Revolution Summer scene and later indie rock and indie pop. That group includes Ian MacKaye, Michael Hampton, Ivor Hanson and Chris Bald, and releases one self-titled album.
