Eliot Morris

Eliot Morris is an American singer-songwriter from Mobile, Alabama. He is born in 1977 and later moves from Mobile to Auburn, then on to Nashville and Birmingham, Alabama. He graduates from Auburn University with a degree in finance.

Early life and development

Morris grows up in a household of six children in Mobile. He says his father encourages them to look at and use what they already have rather than chasing the newest technology, and that this shapes his approach to communication and songwriting. He describes himself as used to delayed gratification.

Recording career

His major-label debut is What’s Mine Is Yours on Universal Records. Before that release, he issues a self-titled record that remains relatively little known. He also signs to Strummers Records, a Universal subsidiary, but that label folds before his album appears.

After moving to Birmingham, he continues writing and performing there with renewed focus. He first tries to form a band called Parkers Back around his songs, but then continues as a solo artist. His music builds through CD sharing and steady touring.

Live work and recognition

Morris plays local venues and also supports larger acts, including John Mayer, Counting Crows and James Taylor. His songcraft and southern perspective help establish his reputation as a singer-songwriter working in rock, folk, acoustic and chill-oriented styles.
