Duke Dumont

Duke Dumont is a British house and electronic producer known for deep house, electro, UK bass and garage-influenced club music. Before 2012, he is described as a “producer’s producer”, with records that DJs reach for in clubs before his name becomes widely known.

Early career and production work

He begins his career working with support from Switch, and he becomes known for reworking pop songs for the dancefloor. Among the artists he remixes or produces for are Lily Allen and Bat For Lashes. In 2011, he moves from London to Hertfordshire to focus on original material, working from a studio overlooking a forest.

Breakthrough releases

In 2012, two EPs on Turbo Recordings, a label with which he has a long-standing relationship, bring him wider attention. For Club Play Only Vol. 1 appears in April 2012 and includes “Street Walker” and “Thunderclap”, while For Club Play Only Vol. 2 arrives later that year and includes “No Money Blues” and “The Giver”. These releases draw support from DJs and broadcasters including Annie Mac, Erol Alkan, Diplo, Martyn, Jackmaster, Fearne Cotton, Trevor Nelson, Tiësto and Avicii, and “The Giver” is played in all three rooms of Fabric London on some nights.

Label work and chart success

He then releases “Need U (100%)” on his own Blasé Boys Club label. The track features vocals from A*M*E and is co-written with MNEK. It reaches number one in the UK for two weeks.

Style and collaborators

Duke Dumont’s music combines techno, UK garage, house, deep house and bass music. His work also gains support through remixes for AlunaGeorge and Santigold.
