Dillinja

Dillinja is Karl Francis, a drum and bass and jungle producer and DJ from Clapham, South London, in the United Kingdom. Born in 1974, he works as a record producer and entrepreneur and is associated with UK drum and bass.

Career

He starts releasing vinyl in 1991 and goes on to build a large catalogue, with more than 500 releases produced across his career. He is often described as one of the most prolific producers in drum and bass. His recordings appear under several spellings and aliases, including Dillinger and Dillinjah on older vinyl.

Labels, sound system and studio

Francis sets up Valve Recordings with long-term collaborator Lemon D. He and Lemon D also design and build the Valve Sound System. Together with King, they open Ear2ground, a specialist mastering and vinyl cutting studio.

Albums and collaborations

His albums include My Sound, Cybotron, Big Bad Bass and The Killa-Hertz, the last of which is made with Lemon D. He is also connected with a number of aliases, including Capone and Trinity. The names Capone and Trinity are linked to earlier reggae figures Dennis Alcapone and Junior Brammer, while the name Dillinja is likely derived from the reggae MC Dillinger.
