Delta Heavy

Delta Heavy are a British drum and bass production duo made up of Ben Hall and Simon James. The group forms in the United Kingdom and works in electronic music, with their output also linked to dubstep, neurofunk, deep house and jungle. They release music through their own Delta Heavy label and RAM Records.

Formation and early development

Hall and James first meet at Nottingham University in 2003. Their partnership develops from complementary skills: James has a more traditional musical background, while Hall focuses on sound engineering. Both are involved in DJ culture and both play records. After graduating, they return to London and begin working with computer software, building their production approach from shared musical interests and technical experience.

Releases and label work

Their first release appears in June 2009 on Viper’s Acts Of Mad Men compilation. They then contribute a track to the Harry Brown soundtrack and follow with Abort in June 2010, a release that gains strong attention in drum and bass circles and also receives mainstream support. They later sign to RAM Records with Space Time/Take The Stairs.

Breakthrough and albums

Delta Heavy gain wider recognition with the 2012 single Get By, which enters the UK Indie Chart at number 30. Their debut album, Paradise Lost, is released through RAM Records in 2016. The album is preceded by Reborn and Ghost; Ghost becomes notable for its music video, which features an animated Clippit. In 2019 they release their second album, Only in Dreams, which includes collaborations with Zeds Dead, Modestep, Muzzy and Kuuro.
